I don't claim to be an authenticity expert. I can't tell a factory reject from a genuine production part by feel. But I do know this: spending fifteen minutes on a manufacturer's website costs less than the labor hour it takes to install a fake bearing. The Silverado mount cost $85 plus $290 labor, and then the properly made mount cost $190 plus another $290 labor. I saved maybe $1,600 on the first purchases and paid almost $2,900 in total. The person who absorbed that difference? The company. Which means me, in the form of a very awkward budget review.
